South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association (SYEDA) is hosting an event about the male experience of eating disorders.
They are the only eating disorder charity in South Yorkshire and they work tirelessly to support people with eating disorders in their recovery, and those who care for them. They are hosting a public event at the University of Sheffield’s Diamond building called “Men and Eating Disorders”. The event provides space to male voices and to learn more about the male experience of eating disorders. The theme this year is one that they have been planning for several years. For too long, boys and men have been overlooked in the world of eating disorders – in terms of public perception, by those who fail to pick up the early signs such as teachers and nurses, across services and in the individual themselves. It is 2019 and many still consider eating disorders to be a ‘girl’s mental illness. They know this is not the case.
