    Here we have provided you with a list of children and young people’s mental health services during Covid-19 that we hope will help you get the right support you need. We will do our best to continue to update this list as provision shifts and develops.

    NHS Mental Health Information

    • Sheffield CAMHS are currently following standard NHS guidance so there is likely to be disruption to appointments. To contact the main switchboard call 0114 271 7000 during working hours.

    I want to talk to someone

    • Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Futures and Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group have launched a wellbeing support line for young people (between 12-18) in Sheffield. You can access support by calling 0808 275 8892. The support line is open Monday to Sunday 9am to 9pm.
    • Childline – You can call 0800 1111 to speak to a counsellor from 9am-Midnight every night. You can also have a 1-1 online chat but will not be able to join the virtual queue for this after 10.30pm.
    • SHOUT are continuing to run their service 24/7 text service for anybody in crisis. If you are under 18 text YM to 85258
    • Kooth provides a free online chat service for young people, available Mon to Fri 12pm to 10 pm, Sat and Sun 6pm to 10pm. You can chat to a counsellor or with the online community.
    • Youth Access UK provide free and local counselling services, information and advice.
    • The Mix Counselling Service are offering short term online and telephone counselling. Simply fill in their online form.
    • Sheffield Young Carers are currently offering online and phone support to their existing members only. They are still taking referrals but have a waiting list of at least 8 months.
    • The Let’s Talk Directory is a wellbeing and mental health services guide for children and young people in Sheffield.
    • You can download the app MeeTwo if you want to talk about difficult things and look for support in a safe and secure environment
    • One Space is an online signposting directory to help you get the support you need most if you’re under 25.

    I don’t feel safe at home

    • Nacoa are providing help, support and advice for anyone who is affected by a parent’s drinking. If you would like to talk to someone call 0800 358 3456 (Mon – Sat 2pm-7pm) or email [email protected] (Mon-Sat 12pm-9pm)
    • Childline – You can call 0800 1111 to speak to a counsellor from 9am-Midnight every night. You can also have a 1-1 online chat but will not be able to join the virtual queue for this after 10.30pm.
    • If domestic abuse is happening in your home, you can call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline 24/7 on 0808 2000 247 or visit Refuge.
    • If you have been raped or sexually assaulted you can get help through Rape Crisis by calling 0808 802 9999 (Open between 12-2.30pm and 7pm-9.30pm every day of the year) or by using their webchat function (open to women and girls over 16.)
    • Survivors UK provides to support or advice to any boy or man over the age of 13 who has experienced any form of sexual abuse or violence. You can chat online or via text or whatsapp to get support and help.
    • The Hideout provides help, information and support if you’re currently living with violence, you’ve experienced violence in the past or you know someone else going through it.

    I’m feeling suicidal

    • You can call Childline on 0800 1111 to speak to a counsellor from 9am-Midnight every night. You can also have a 1-1 online chat but will not be able to join the virtual queue for this after 10.30pm.
    • Papyrus provide support, advice and information to anyone under 35 who is suicidal or concerned about someone else who is suicidal. You can call their support line, Hopeline UK on 0800 068 4141 or text 07786209697 (9am – 10pm weekdays, 2pm – 10pm weekends, 2pm – 10pm bank holiday) or email [email protected]
    • CALM provides support to men over the age of 15 who are feeling suicidal or experiencing suicidal ideation. You can call 0800 585858 (Every day 5pm-midnight) or use their web-chat service.

    I’m hurting myself 

    • Self Injury Support is providing email, text and online support and lots of information and advice if you or someone you know is self harming.
    • You can download the Calm Harm app which helps you manage your self harm, get help and support and talk to someone you trust.

    I’m struggling with food

    • Beat provide a number of services and online support and information for those who have eating disorders or are struggling with disordered eating. You can call their Youthline on 0808 801 0711 (12pm-8pm weekdays, 4pm-8pm weekends) or use their online webchat function.
    • SYEDA are currently closed to new referrals  are continuing to offer therapy via phone/zoom to those already in services or on a waiting list. However they are able to phone people who may be struggling but this is not therapy. Please email [email protected] for more information

    I’m worried about drugs and alcohol

    LGBTQ+ Support

    • Mermaids – supports young trans, gender diverse and gender questioning children and their families. They are continuing to offer their helpline, webchat, email and text support services. Click here to talk to someone.
    • SAYiT  is now operating online. All youth groups are being held the same day but with slightly different timings and now held virtually – for more information or if you would like to join, email or call  0114 241 2728/[email protected] To make a new referral e-mail, [email protected]
    • LGBT Foundation are providing a remote service if you would like support or advice relating to any aspect of being LGBTQ+
    • Gendered Intelligence are offering a revised service for anybody who identifies as trans or non-binary or is exploring their gender identity. If you are on the waiting list for Sheffield Porterbrook Gender Clinic and want to speak to someone who is trans affirming you can call the GI support line on 0330 359678, email, [email protected] or Text and WhatsApp chat, 07592 650 496
    • The Colours Youth Network is a UK wide initiative supporting young LGBTQ+ people of colour to explore and celebrate who they are (via Instagram).

    I have autism

    If you’re looking for activities that are offered specifically for young people who are autistic there are lots of things for you:

    ACCT (Aspergers Children and Carers Together) are running a number of online and in person activities throughout the summer holidays.

    • Teenage Youth Club – Wednesday 7-9pm
    • Acctivate Children’s Club – Saturdays 10-12pm
    • ACCT Academy Football Club – Fridays 6-7pm @ Goals
    • ACCT’s dedicated Minecraft Server – Wednesday 7-9pm & Saturday 9.45-12.15pm
    • Parents Zoom Meeting – Alternate Tuesday 7-9pm
    • Dungeons & Dragons Zoom – Monday and Saturday

    Things to keep me busy

    • Sheffield Futures are offering lots of activities and support including 1-1 structured support and short term counselling. If you would like support in this way you can email [email protected] Their Wellbeing Café runs through a live video on Instagram @door43_ . Young People can ask questions and they can share advice and information relating to emotional health and wellbeing as well as getting support on a particular theme. The Wellbeing cafe have also started running a film club. Wellbeing Wednesday is a drop-in service for one-to-one support every Wednesday, from 11-4. You can call 07815 698 447 and once Sheffield Futures have verified your identity they will assign yout to a practitioner who will call you back for a 20 minute one-to-one chat. Please note, the service is currently only for YP who have already registered with Door43. There is also a weekly blog post, lots more fun social media content and latest news.
    • The Golddigger Trust are currently offering a number of different activities. You can join in with some of their weekly ‘drop ins’ (online over Zoom/Minecraft/Facebook live), sign up to their weekly wellbeing newsletter (filled with tips, articles, videos and info about upcoming activities), follow their new wellbeing focused YouTube channel, or join in with some sessions based around the 5 areas of wellbeing (bookable into via Eventbrite). Some of the ones planned in the next few weeks include: a quiz night, a stretching session, craft along sessions, skin pampering session. You can access the Golddigger Trust on Instagram on the following handles: @imthegirliwanttobe @wearemadeofmore @golddiggertrust and you can sign up to the 5 areas of wellbeing sessions on their website.
    • Chilypep are offering lots of fun projects if you’d like to get involved. Just email [email protected] or call 0114 234 8846. You can follow them on facebook, twitter or instagram. Also, follow the hashtag,#ChilypepChallenges to keep up to date with fun activities.
    • STAMP (Support, Think, Act, Motivate, Participate): A group for young people aged 14-25 who want to have a voice and say around mental health. STAMP help make change in Sheffield by working with commissioners (those who fund services) and mental health services to help shape services and support for young people. STAMP also work on their own mental health campaigns. The group meets every Monday evening (online over this period) and are also offered 1-1 support from staff.
    • Act for Change: Chilypep and Element Society are launching their new youth-led project in Sheffield. They will be working together to support young people to campaign on the things that matter to them, to make change and challenge social injustice and inequality. If you are 11-25 and interested in taking action and making change then get in touch!
    • Happy Group: part of the RUBIC project, Happy group is a group for asylum seeking, refugee and newly arrived young people. The group meets every Tuesday evening (online at the moment!) and is a social space where young people can get to connect with others, explore issues affecting them, and take part in creative activities. Young people are also able to have 1-1 support from staff and get involved in other parts of the RUBIC project. If you are 11-25 and interested in the group please get in touch!
    • The Mix are providing lots of support, online activities, and blog posts for you if you’re under 25. They also have an online 1-1 chat and you can call 0808 808 4994 if you’d like to speak to someone about how you’re feeling.
    • Kids of Colour are a support and empowerment organisation for children and young people who are non-white to explore race, identity, culture and institutional racism. They have a blog, Youtube channel and a reporting database where you can report an incident or act of racism and get the signposting support you might need.

    • CAMHS have created a number of resources for young people, carers and professionals to help support mental health and wellbeing.
    • Sheffield Children’s Hospital have created resources specifically to support the emotional wellbeing of children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
    • Young Minds are providing detailed advice for parents on how to support children through grief and loss.
    • Barnardo’s are providing support and advice on keeping children safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic
    • South Yorkshire Futures, Trauma Informed Schools and Sheffield Hallam University are producing PDF resources called Children and Covid-19, providing support and advice for parents, carers and those working with children.
