LASS (Lesbian Asylum Support Sheffield) is a local volunteer run support organisation for refugees and asylum seekers who identify as women or as non-binary and are lesbian, bisexual and/or queer.
They provide support to those who are seeking asylum in the UK and are in the early stages of the refugee process. They can provide practical and emotional support but also signpost to therapeutic services for those who are experiencing any mental health issue or have lived experience of abuse, violence or torture.
LASS run a support group on the first Thursday of the month from 5.30pm -8.30pm at Together Women. This is primarily a social space for LBTQ+ identifying asylum seekers and refugees to meet and relaxed in an inclusive environment. There is normally a meal cooked by members at each meeting alongside crafts and other activities. The meetings are led by members depending on their own needs at the time. There are volunteers on hand to facilitate and support the group as well as providing 1:1 drop-in appointments for those needing support with their asylum claim or are transitioning through the early stages of being granted refugee status. All volunteers identify as LBTQ+ women or as non binary. Please contact LASS before attending.
Please note, LASS do not give legal advice.Â
