A disabled person’s travel pass is available for people with severe and continuing mental health issues. It provides them with free public transport within the South Yorkshire area. This is open to people aged 5 to 66 years old. If you have another long term health condition, you may also be eligible for the pass. You can see the full eligibility criteria on their website.
If you receive PIP enhanced level, DLA higher rate care or higher rate attendance allowance, you may qualify to have a carer travel with you free of charge.
You can apply for a pass or renew your existing pass online. Alternatively, there are forms available at Howden House.
Please note that mental health isn’t listed as a criteria however it is covered under “You would be denied a driving licence on medical grounds (but not drugs or alcohol misuse)” and you would need confirmation of this via a letter A letter from the DVLA; or Community Practice nurse; or social worker; or psychiatrist; or community mental health worker.
