Sheffield Autistic Society is a local charity for autistic people (including Asperger/Aspergers Syndrome), their families and carers. The Society is inclusive and aims to support any individual, of any age, who may be on the Autistic Spectrum. They provide support and information, and campaign for a better world for autistic people.

If you are the parent or carer of an autistic person, or if you have been diagnosed with autism/Aspergers’ yourself, you are not alone. Sheffield’s Autism Joint Needs Assessment says that, “It is estimated that between 8,500 to as many as over 20,000 people (all ages) in Sheffield could have an Autistic Spectrum Condition.”

Please note that the officers of the Sheffield Autistic Society are all volunteers which means they  may not be able to respond straight away. Please email them via the link on the website.

Their services include:

Monthly Support Group

Due to Covid Sheffield Autistic Society have not been able to run their group but they hope to start their face-to-face meetings from September 2021.  They are also looking for new premises in the city centre as the Carer’s Centre can no longer host them.  The new meetings will be on Thursdays during the daytime. Please check their website for updates once they have obtained new premises etc.

Everyone is welcome to join the daytime meetings for a hot drink and a chat.  This includes parents, carers, partners and autistic people. They have speakers from time to time but the meetings are very informal.

Group for Autistic and Aspergers Adults

The group usually meets on the last Thursday each month (check website for variations), 7pm – 8.30pm. Due to Covid restrictions, the Group has now moved online and meets via Zoom. They also have guest speakers and participants are very welcome to suggest topics they would like to discuss in advance of the meetings

New members are welcome once they have read the group guidelines. Please email for further details and to be placed on the mailing list.

They also have other events such as cinema visits, a photography group and they work with the Art House in running an Autistic Well Being Art Group.  Once again please check their website for the latest information.

Summer Playscheme

Due to the current restrictions Sheffield Autistic Society are unable to offer the summer playscheme in 2021.

Sheffield Autistic Society also coordinate various one-off events and provide information, links and resources on their website .

Covid update 05/7/21: Most services continue under covid-safe conditions but may be meeting online some of the time. Please contact Sheffield Autistic Society via the Contact page on their website for the latest information.
